Laredo Residents Discover 8 Free Outdoor Gym Stations at Local Parks
Residents turn to no-cost stations at parks along the Rio Grande and in established neighborhoods for daily workouts.
How we reported this

Laredo’s city-maintained fitness stations logged 18,400 check-ins during the first six months of 2026 at two primary sites alone.
Summer heat and rising membership costs at indoor gyms have pushed more people outdoors, where equipment stays open from dawn until 10 p.m. daily. The Parks and Recreation Department added new pull-up bars and resistance bands last spring after tracking a 31 percent jump in trail use between 2024 and 2025.
Circuits along the river and in the Heights
At the Laredo River Trail entrance off Bob Bullock Loop, users find parallel bars, dip stations and a 1.2-mile marked loop that connects to the World Trade Bridge pedestrian path. The route passes shaded benches every quarter mile and includes QR codes that link to body-weight routines posted by the city’s wellness program. Five blocks east, the circuit at Chacon Park on Park Street in the Heights neighborhood features a rubberized surface with kettlebells, battle ropes and step platforms installed in 2024. Both locations sit within a 10-minute drive of downtown and require no registration.
Usage data and next steps
City records released July 8 show the river trail equipment saw 9,200 individual sessions between January and June, while Chacon Park recorded 9,200 more. No fees apply, though the department asks visitors to wipe down handles after use. Residents can pick up printed circuit maps at the Laredo Public Library branch on McPherson Road or download them from the city website before heading out. Early-morning sessions before 8 a.m. avoid peak temperatures, and water fountains at both parks operate year-round.
