Laredo First-Home Buyers Step Up Purchases in $160,000 to $210,000 Range
Activity among entry-level buyers rose sharply in June, with closed sales up 45 percent from May in the lowest price tier.
How we reported this

First-home buyers closed 137 deals on Laredo properties priced under $210,000 during June, according to records from the Webb County Appraisal District.
The increase arrives while 30-year fixed mortgage rates sit near 6.1 percent and inventory of homes below $200,000 has grown to 312 active listings, the highest count since March 2025.
Most of the activity occurred in the Santa Rita neighborhood and along streets near Del Mar Boulevard, where buyers accessed down-payment grants through the Webb County Housing Finance Corporation and attended orientation sessions at the Laredo Public Library branch on McPherson Road.
Figures released by the Laredo Association of Realtors show the median price for homes purchased by first-time buyers reached $189,500 in the second quarter of 2026, $15,500 below the citywide median.
Neighborhoods Drawing New Buyers
Properties on the 300 block of Gonzalez Street and in the Los Presidentes subdivision sold within eight days of listing at an average of $178,000. Local lenders reported 62 pre-approvals issued to buyers under age 35 in the first three weeks of June, compared with 41 during the same period last year.
Real estate agents noted that many of these buyers used the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs first-time homebuyer program, which caps household income at $92,000 for a family of four in Webb County.
Next Steps for Buyers
Those preparing to enter the market should review current listings through the South Texas Multiple Listing Service and schedule appointments with participating lenders before the next Federal Open Market Committee meeting scheduled for July 29. Early qualification can lock in current rates on homes listed near the Laredo International Airport industrial corridor where starter homes remain most numerous.
