Laredo City Council Sets 2027 Property Tax Rate at Current Level for All Residents

The Laredo City Council adopted the fiscal year 2027 budget on July 9 and kept the property tax rate at 0.6725 per $100 of assessed value. The action applies to every residential and commercial property inside the city limits and determines the portion of the bill that funds general city operations.

City budget documents show the decision follows three consecutive years of rising costs for road repairs and emergency services along the international bridges. Property tax collections are projected to total 245 million dollars next year, covering salaries, equipment and maintenance without an increase in the rate itself.

Effects on household and business costs

For a median-valued home assessed at 148000 dollars, the city portion of the tax bill will remain 996 dollars. Residents report that the unchanged amount leaves their monthly budgets the same for that line item while other local expenses such as water and electricity continue to rise. Local advocates note that fixed-income households in the central wards will see no additional pressure on property tax payments this cycle.

Business owners along San Bernardo Avenue and in the industrial parks near the airport will also pay the same rate per valuation. Policy analysts say the stability allows companies to forecast occupancy and payroll costs without an added tax variable in their 2027 projections.

The budget allocates 62 million dollars to the police department and 41 million dollars to street and bridge maintenance. These figures come directly from the adopted document released by the city finance department on July 10.

The new budget takes effect on October 1. City staff will issue tax statements in November and begin quarterly revenue reviews in January 2027 to track actual collections against the 245 million dollar projection.
